MADISON, Wis.--Northwestern's eighth-ranked women's tennis team concluded its appearance at the USTA-ITA National Team Indoor Championship with an easy 6-1 win against Texas A&M in the consolation round.

"I was concerned about how we would play after a tough loss yesterday," said head coach Claire Pollard, whose seventh-seeded team fell to No. 2 seed Georgia 4-3 on Friday in the semifinal round. "But we showed some resilience and did a good job."

Jamie Peisel and Alexis Prousis began the day by clinching the doubles point for the 'Cats (5-1), outlasting Roberta Spencer and Lauren Walker 5-2 at No. 2. Peisel also beat Spencer, while Prousis took down Walker, at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively.

Jessica Rush (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) earned the win for NU with her 6-4, 6-1 win over Helga Vielra at No. 2. Ruth Barnes (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) picked up the final point by edging Anna Lubinsky 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (8) at No. 6.

"I thought we represented the Big Ten well (with a 2-1 tournament record)," said Pollard. "What we take away is that we almost beat Georgia, which is in the championship match."

The Wildcats return to Combe Tennis Center, where they will take on South Alabama at 5 p.m. Friday.
