Wildcats Hold on to First Place on Day Two of NU Invitational
Nov. 22, 2003 EVANSTON, Ill. - After two days of competition, the Wildcats have extended their lead in the TYR NU Invitational with 698 points, ahead of Rice with 534.50, Southern Illinois with 485.50 and Ohio State with 450. For the second day in a row, the Northwestern relay teams swept the competition. The Wildcats' took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.52. The 'Cats capped off a solid night with first-and second-place finishes in the 800 freestyle as well, with times of 7:36.96 and 7:39.54, respectively. Sophomore Katie Paglini, who swam the opening leg of the 200 medley relay, finished first in the 100 back with a time of 57.72. Senior Vicky West posted a first-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.04, while freshman Kristen Kilroy took first in the 100 fly with a time of 56.24. Junior Brielle Bovee swam to a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.71, just two-tenths of a second off the first-place time. In addition to the first-place finish in the 200 free, West finished third in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:27.30. Action continues tomorrow in the final day of the TYR NU Invitational at 9 a.m. for the preliminary heats and 3 p.m. for the finals session.
