'Cats Take Down Eagles
Dec. 18, 2003
WASHINGTON--Daniel Quintela (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) won by technical fall as Northwestern picked up its sixth victory of the season with an easy 41-10 win over American. Quintela, who beat Ben Lamson 18-0, led four other Wildcats (6-1) in wins over the Eagles (0-2). American won just two bouts while forfeiting three. "Daniel did a great job," said head coach Tim Cysewski. "He has been wrestling steadily all year. He is gaining more and more confidence as the season goes on." John Velez (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings) also won by technical fall, topping Matt Pelligrino 21-5. Matt Delguyd (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) improved his team-leading record to 9-1 with a pin of Adam Montgomery in 2:01. "We wrestled well for competing so early in the morning," said Cysewski, noting the 10 a.m. match time. "However, I feel we should have won swept all the bouts. "As for the Beast of the East, I am excited to see how we fare. We just have to be ready to go in that tournament. We should be in a good position to have a few guys place." The Wildcats head to Newark, Del., to compete in the Beast of the East Invitational on Friday.
