DOTHAN, Ala. - Northwestern picked up its second shutout of 2003 as it defeated Temple (0-2), 3-0, Saturday at the Wiregraph Classic in Dothan, Ala. Solid pitching continued for the 'Cats, as sophomore J.A. Happ (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) pitched 6.2 innings, giving up only three hits and striking out eight in leading NU to victory. With the win, NU improved to 6-1 on the season, its best start under head coach Paul Stevens.

Jon Mikrut (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) came on for the save, his second of the season, tallying a three pitch strikeout to end the contest. Due to bad weather in the area, the game was reduced to seven innings.

Freshman Mark Ori (Niles, Ill./Maine South) provided the Wildcats with all the offense they would need, going 1-for-3 with two RBI. Brandon Ackley (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) tallied the other NU run when he smacked a triple. Temple's throw back to the infield was off line, allowing Ackley to scamper home.

Complete results from Saturday's game will be available soon.

NU is back in action Sunday against Kansas State. The first pitch is set for 10 a.m.
